How Fly saved the river

There was once a river so beautiful that all the animals came to drink from it. One day a giant moose came to this river.

“He’s so big!” cried out a beaver named Barney.

“Even bigger than Big Bear,” added Betty, another beaver.

“He sure is thirsty,” noticed Marty, a muskrat/ մշկառնետ/.

“He’s drinking so much that the river is going down!” yelled Mary, another muskrat.

The animals grew worried.

“Our beaver dams will be destroyed,” warned Barney.

“And we’ll have no water to drink,” said Mary.

Big Bear, who had been listening to the whole time said, “Let’s meet tonight and plan how to get rid of this pest.“

“Count me in!” added Fly.

All the animals laughed at Fly. How was such a tiny creature going to help?

As the sky grew dark, Fly joined the others on the riverbank.

“So, what’s the plan?” he asked.

Barney started by saying, “I will gnaw on that moose’s legs until he runs away.“

“But he’ll kick you with his big strong hooves!”, warned Betty.

“Oh,” said Barney. “I didn’t think of that.”

“We need another plan,” both muskrats said at the same time.

“I am the strongest,” said Big Bear. “I’ll fight that moose.”

“But the moose is twice your size!” said Fly.

The beavers and muskrats all said to Fly, “Be quiet. You are the weakest of all.”

The next morning, Bear was worried. Was Fly right? Was the moose truly twice his size?

“Bear hurry!” said the muskrats.

But Big Bear did not move.

“I’m… I’m… scared,” he replied.

“Maybe we should try my plan,” Fly admitted. But all the other animals just laughed at Fly.

So, Fly flew onto the moose’s back. Holding on tightly, he bit the moose as hard as he could.

“Ouch!” cried the moose.

Fly flew up and bit the moose’s ear.

“Stop it!” the moose yelled.

“I’ll never stop,” said Fly, as he flew around and bit the moose on its leg.

The moose was unable to stop Fly, so he turned and ran. The animals never saw him again.

That night, the beavers made fish stew. The muskrats danced a special dance in honour of Fly.

“Hooray for Fly!” they all sang.

“You see,” began Fly, “even the weakest animal can beat the strongest if he uses his brain.”

Lusik Aguletsi house-museum: a traditional place in Yerevan

Armenians have traditional clothing for women called “taraz”. There are varieties of tarazes from different regions of the country that are decorated with Armenian ethnic ornaments. The same is with traditional jewelries that are made of silver, and based on the ornaments, you could guess which region that jewelry comes from. More on the history and development of traditional clothing you can learn at the History Museum of Armenia. I have to say that getting familiar with tarazes and traditional jewelry will help you to have already a notable background on Armenian culture. Not a long time ago, there was a woman called Lusik Aguletsi, a famous painter and ethnographer, who used to walk in the streets of Yerevan wearing traditional clothing and jewelry. Since she was almost the only one in modern Armenia to follow “old Armenian fashion”, she became famous in the town. This article is to invite you to visit Lusik Aguletsi house-museum, where you will get a warm welcome from the hosts and will have a chance to spend a fantastic time in a very traditional place.

About the house-museum

Lusik Aguletsi’s house-museum is located in one of the suburbs of Yerevan, but you do not have to spend much time to get there (15 minutes by car from the city center). This is the house where Ms. Lusik used to live until a year ago. Entering her house is the same as entering an ancient Armenian house. It feels like stepping into another world. Those who visit it feel the warmth of hospitality that was created by Lusik Aguletsi. In the house, you can find traditional interior and decoration attributes. There are separate parts of the house where personal items of Aguletsi are represented, such as different belts, necklaces and other jewelry, clothes,  bags, carpets and rugs, head-wearings and so on.

The majority of the items are hand-made. Besides the above-mentioned ones, there are also hand-made dolls, paintings, and everything that one should have at the house, but the difference is that the ones you see here are traditional and impressive.

Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood lived in a wood with her mother. One day Little Red Riding Hood went to visit her granny. She had a nice cake in her basket.
On her way Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf.
‘Hello!’ said the wolf. ‘Where are you going?’
‘I’m going to see my grandmother. She lives in a house behind those trees.’
The wolf ran to Granny’s house and ate Granny up. He got into Granny’s bed. A little later, Little Red Riding Hood reached the house. She looked at the wolf.
‘Granny, what big eyes you have!’
‘All the better to see you with!’ said the wolf.
‘Granny, what big ears you have!’
‘All the better to hear you with!’ said the wolf.
‘Granny, what a big nose you have!’
‘All the better to smell you with!’ said the wolf.
‘Granny, what big teeth you have!’
‘All the better to eat you with!’ shouted the wolf.
A woodcutter was in the wood. He heard a loud scream and ran to the house.
The woodcutter hit the wolf over the head. The wolf opened his mouth wide and shouted and Granny jumped out.
The wolf ran away and Little Red Riding Hood never saw the wolf again.

Planet Earth

Planet Earth

Welcome to Planet Earth Museum, a museum where you can learn some interesting facts about the world we live in.
‘There are many amazing places on Earth. Who knows, maybe you’ll see them all one day! Where shall we go first, children?’
‘Forests!’
Forests are home to over half of the world’s animals and plants. Trees clean the air and produce oxygen for us to breathe.
We destroy more than 36 football fields of forests every minute and throw away thousands of trees in paper and card every day.
The oceans are home to millions of marine animals. They absorb the sun’s heat, transfer it to the atmosphere and move it around the world.
A lot of the rubbish we produce on land pollutes the oceans. Turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and die when they eat them.
At opposite ends of the world, the Arctic and Antarctic are freezing cold lands. It is so cold that the sea is covered in ice.
The fuel we use for energy makes the climate warmer. As it gets warmer, the ice melts and the sea rises. The land disappears.
Rivers collect rain water and carry it to the oceans. Along the way, plants absorb and clean the water so it is safe for us to drink.
This is a green world, where people respect nature and live a long and healthy life. Wouldn’t you like to live here?
